Little Lessons from the School of Inattention

Green Lantern (Martin Campbell, 2011)

It isn’t as ambitiously highbrow as Christopher Nolan’s Batman remakes, and thankfully so. The comic book-pretending-to-be-serious-stuff shtick is getting a bit tiresome. The film’s obviously a product of a hack. It’s all noise and fireworks and lousy dialogue. It is corny, with all its talk of aliens, fear, willpower and magic rings. Fantastically, it’s not as torturous as reported. It is as entertaining as the last comic book movie and as forgettable as the last summer flick. (6/19/2011)
